For Solomon Islands businesses

Every customer message should land.

I’m Gurpreet, co-founder of Biji-biji Initiative and Mereka in Malaysia. I make sure every call, WhatsApp, email and enquiry reaches you, and you pay only after you’ve tested it.

Honiara is three hours ahead of Kuala Lumpur, so I start early.

What I check

Six ways in. I test every one.

Customers reach you in six ways. I try each one on a real phone, the way they do, and note anything that stops a message getting through.

  • Call

Every phone number taps to call, and it is the right number.

  • WhatsApp

WhatsApp buttons open a chat with your number, not one a digit short.

  • Email

Email links open a real address, and mail to it arrives.

  • Enquiry form

Your form sends, and the message reaches someone who reads it.

  • Facebook

Your page’s button, phone number and hours match how you work.

  • Google

Your Google listing shows the right number, hours and website.

If something is wrong, I tell you exactly what, and how to put it right. Pass that to your web person, or I can do it.

How a check runs. An illustration with no real business in it: one of the six is broken until it is fixed.

If anything we fixed is not working when you test it, you pay nothing.

Who you’d be working with

Hello, I’m Gurpreet.

I trained as a physicist, then spent fifteen years building things that work for people.

I co-founded Biji-biji Initiative and Mereka in Malaysia. Amok is my own small studio for Solomon Islands businesses: I bring the same care to a WhatsApp button that I brought to a factory floor.

I speak English, Malay, Punjabi and Hindi.

You can check that here: my LinkedIn profile.

Fifteen years of building

A plant, a factory, a makerspace. Your website is in good hands.

  1. 012007–2010 · University of Manchester

    Learning to gather light.

A physics degree, with a thesis on constructing a liquid mirror telescope. You can spin one further down this page.

  2. 022011–2012 · GASK Natural

From theory to a working plant.

As managing partner and head of R&D, I designed, engineered and built a complete biomass processing plant.

  3. 032012–2016 · Biji-biji Initiative

    Making room for makers.

Co-founder and Chief Digital Officer of a sustainable design and manufacturing company known for its art installations. Our impact framework was adopted by MaGIC for the national accreditation of impact-driven enterprises, and I founded Biji-biji Ethical Fashion, shown at KL Fashion Week in 2017 and 2019.

  4. 042016 onward · Mereka

A place to learn, and to build.

CEO and co-founder of a 12,000 ft² makerspace in Kuala Lumpur, with classrooms, a kitchen and labs. In Sabah I designed and taught a digital-literacy pilot for stateless youth.

    Small fixes, real difference.

The same attention, pointed at the small things that stop a customer reaching a Solomon Islands business. Small actions can lead to significant change.

Along the way

  • 2019US International Visitor Leadership Program
  • 2016Ashoka Changemakers Exchange, Japan
  • 2014Alliance BizSmart Challenge champion, ahead of 20 finalists
A liquid mirrorSpin a liquid and it becomes a mirror: parallel light in, one point of focus.ω 2.80 rad/s · 26.7 rpm · f = g/2ω² = 0.63 m

Manchester, 2010 · The thesis

Spin a dish of liquid and gravity pulls it into a perfect curve: a mirror that gathers faint light to a single point. Building one was my physics thesis.

Gathering small details until the picture is sharp is still how I work. A message is the same: it either arrives, or it doesn’t.
